The UK Online Safety Act 2023 makes it the responsibility of site owners to carry out a laundry list of protection behaviours. (I wrote about it here) Mostly, this boils down to doing a risk assessment for user contributed content.
This is mine
I agree with the UK government that we want less of the stuff they list on the Internet. I want exactly zero of it on my blog. So, guess what? I don’t allow it. Never had, and I never will.
The risk: Someone might leave a bad comment. The new law does not change this. Like, duh! All bloggers know this.
The Action: Suspect comments are automatically held for moderation. Any unwanted spam or unpleasant content will continue to be deleted on sight. You know, like before, only now there is this pointless page taking up space.
TL;DR: Nothing has changed; this blogger is already doing the sensible and safe thing.
