Matt’s pain scale

The classic pain scale runs from 0 (no pain at all) to 10 (the worst you have ever felt).

There is a problem with this scale – any new 10 redefines the ones that went before. A year or so before lockdown, I had several visits to the hospital. Each of those was a new 10.

Right now, I have no way to describe what a 10 is but, dear god, I hope you never feel it.

As a guide, a 5 was what my 10 used to be. I did not know that that much pain was possible. A 6 is pretty darn-near crippling. A 6 is very very bad but my scale for pain just keeps going.

That said, as my memory of the new 10 fades, I think my scale has adjusted to deflate again. This data is super subjective.
