For lunch today I had a large bag of cheese Doritos flavoured willpower failure. That’s 180g of delicious untruth.
I figured since today’s healthy eating was already going south, I’d take a look at how bad things were.

The stand out numbers on the front of the packet says 150 kcal. Hey, these could pass as diet food. Oh wait – this is only true if you assume someone will take out just 30g of corn chips when they were hungry enough to reach for the packet to start with.
These guide numbers are nothing but marketing fluff. Doing the maths this packet of Tangy Cheese Doritos contain 900 kcal. A fact not printed on the packet anywhere. The 150 kcal lie on the front of the packet is just so their PR people can say it is a healthy snack or something. If that were true, they’d sell corn chips in 30 g packets rather than the clearly preferred 180 g packet.
With the less than low sugar breakfast that I had earlier, I’m at about 1235 kcal already.
Meanwhile, I’m annoyed enough to say that “this pack contains 6 servings” is a lie. It should say, “we divided the number by 6 to make them less scary”. Quite clearly one packet is just enough to stop a big hairy nerd from feeling hungry when cooking seems like too much hassle.
Other than the whoops-too-many-kcals rating the corn chips are mostly unsaturated fats, non-sugar carbs, and far too much salt.
I can’t entirely blame the Tangy Cheese Doritos lies. It was my willpower failure that led to me eating them. The simple truth is that post-birthday-party-leftovers are not a great combination with someone trying to not be a big fat fatty.
It could be worse. I’ve still got between 765 kcal and 1265 kcal left for the day. Less whatever was in the milk that went with my breakfast.
