So, I took a photo of my early morning breakfast of wheat things stuffed with dried fruit. I ate them with semi-skimmed milk. They were yum.
As I am not made of money, my apricot wheats are the generic stores own brand. I like them. They taste nice.
What and fruit are healthy, right? Part of a happy gut and five a day and all that.
The box tries to tell you that you will only want 45g of this stuff for breakfast because I’m six inches tall and have a tiny appetite. But that way they can claim my breakfast is probably only accounting for 8% of my recommended intake of energy based on completely arbitrary numbers.
If I’m honest, I just fill up the bowl and probably ate 100g, so I’m listing the 100g stats.

| Nutrition (per 100g) | Numbers |
|---|---|
| Energy | 335 kcal |
| Fat | 1.4 g |
| – of which saturates | 0.3 g |
| Carbohydrate | 71.3 g |
| – of which sugars | 16.5 g |
| Fibre | 8.3g |
| Protein | 8 g |
| Salt | 0.2 g |
I’m starting to think that maybe they lied to me a little bit. This “healthy” food is heaving with added sugar. The bulk of this breakfast is wholewheat which sounds healthy. Then there is the apricot filling made of more sugar and glucose syrup than actual fruit.
I just did 13.4% of my total daily calorie intake (based on actual recommendations for my age and gender). That seems like a lot to spank right at the start. The only redeeming feature is that this is carb-heavy (implying complex carbohydrates) so should result in fairly even blood sugar levels (after the massive sugar high).
